Micky Finn's Releases Staff Picks, Recommendations For Best Thanksgiving Wine
Thanksgiving is only days away and that means family dinners and Friendsgivings are just around the corner as well. Obviously, there is always a great deal of consideration given to the food menu. But one aspect of Thanksgiving is often overlooked – the wine.
While wine is a staple at Thanksgiving, it’s not always the right wine. Some wines pair better with Turkey and dressing than others and the quality of the wine is also something to keep in mind when assembling your dinner drink menu. Indeed, there are many factors that must be entered into the equation in order to select the perfect wine.
This year, you can always just grab the usual or you can bring something new but, without careful thought, the wine pairing is a gamble that may or may not pay off.
Thankfully, however, there is some assistance available for those who need some suggestions on what wine might be the biggest winner at the family table. Micky Finn’s staff members and wine experts have taken the time offer their own recommendations for some wines that could help make your Thanksgiving dinner pop.
Below are the Micky Finn’s Thanksgiving Wine Staff Picks:
Weinhaus Schloss Koblenz GmbH - St. Christopher - Gerwurtztraminer 2009
Pairs well with Duck, Goose, Game meats, Cheddar & Gruyere, Chili, Hot & Spicy foods, and fruit desserts.
Willamette Valley Whole Cluster Pinot Noir 2023
Carries maintains a traditional Pinot Noir fruit, whole cluster fermentation and carbonic maceration. A refreshing wine that is both balanced and versatile for a wide variety of food pairings.
La Quercia Montepulciano D'Abruzzo
Red wine. Tangy with numerous flavors including ground black pepper, espresso, salumi, damson plum fruit, and cherry.
Pairs with red meats, red sauce pasta, veal, pork. Barnard Griffin Pinot Gris 2022
Two-vineyard Pinot Gris. Clean and inviting on the nose as well as aromas of citrus, melon, and ripe apple. Acidic on the palate all the while maintaining a fruit taste. Lingering finish.
Blood Root Pinot Noir Coastal California 2022
Nose of strawberries, cranberries, and forrest floor. Palate of juicy red fruit and bright acidic taste.
Raventos i blanc - blanc de blancs
Sparking wine from the Vinya del Llac, an over 40 year old vineyard. Structured yet complex and fresh wine.
Cleto Chiarli E Figli Vecchia Modena
Produced using a method of slow secondary fermentation in closed tanks. Notable and dry taste, bright acidity, persistent perlage, and a clear rose color. The grapes were selected from the vines of Azienda Agricola Chiarli of Sozzigalli (Sorbara).
Carl Graff Mosel Riesling
The lightest of Rieslings, this white wine is not overpowering in its sweetness, though still fruity. Maintains flavors and a nose of apple pie and peach cobbler with a finish of acidity and minerals. Great as an apertif and pairs well with light seafood, spicy Indian or Thai dishes, and pork.
Of course, there are many other options for a good Thanksgiving wine and, ultimately, the most important thing to remember when making your choice is what you actually like.
Either way, any wine is better than no wine at all.
